Hanspaulka is regarded as the most beutiful residential area in Prague with a rich history and exceptional reputation. Along with nearby Ořechovka, Hřebenky in Prague 5 and Pařížská street in Prague 1, Hanspaulka is regarded as one of the best addresses in Prague. Between the 14th to 18th centuries, vineyards and gardens were loacated on the Hanspaulka territory. Hanspaulka got its name from Hans Paul, a nobleman, who in the 17th century built summer mansions with views of Prague. Back then it was a world of vineyards the were built by the rich Prague townsfolk. Today almost any street is named by some of the vineyards and estates from then. More castle villas were built in the 19th century but the real construction boom in Hanspaulka was not seen until the 20th century. Well-know people such as Lida Baarova or Jaroslav Seifert lived in these impressive villas. There are only a few places in Prague that could keep such an unusual atmosphere, peacefully living with a close proximity to nature, but also good road access and close to the city center.
